Born in England and raised in Co Armagh, Nina’s natural talent for singing and songwriting remained a well kept secret until recent years. So much so, the fact came as a shock to her!
The sequence of events which have lead to her recently recording her debut EP at Tumbleweed Studios in Dundalk have involved a string of open mic and music club gigs throughout the North and South of Ireland, a performance (duet) in a Belfast venue as part of an opening act for ex-Fun Lovin’ Criminal Stevo’s band, Needledrop, a live performance on BBC Radio Ulster’s George Jones Show, and most recently, support gigs for artists such as Jenny Lindfors at the esteemed live music venue The Spirit Store, Dundalk. Not bad for someone who first picked up a guitar and began writing songs less than two years ago!
Her vocal style and lyrical content have been likened to that of Suzanne Vega and Dido, however, anyone who hears her music will have difficulty finding a box to put it into.
With lyrics which are honest and emotive and a voice which has given goose bumps to even the most burly of listeners, Nina Armstrong is a delightfully unique artist.
Her debut EP is due for release soon.
